I agree w/ 8x57. I would recommend a Czech VZ24, Yugo 24/47 as a cheaper alternative. Both are exceptional shooters also.
I must have got a heck of a deal on mine. $175 for a numbers matching k98 mil-surp rifle still packed full of cosmolene. $275 for the barrel(22-250) $90 for the Ross thumbhole stock $50 for a trigger. Shoots better than my buddies $1200 savage.

Not to hijack this thread, but you got a great deal. Even Russian capture rifles go for $300.00...450.00 these days. Original matching K98's go for 600.00+++

Interesting direction...I have been looking at that Chech V24 at AIM and 8mm is quite sufficient as is but really, and if I wanted an old military bolt gun the Mosin Nagant at $80 in 7.65X54R will drop anything in NA though I don't know how "modifyable" it is...but I couldn't bring myself to do that to any military rifle...No I am leaning towards the Rem 700 or the Ruger M77 as for new...and having sights installed on say a Win mod.70 wouldn't be to awlful difficult...I do want to stay American made...but the CZ's are beautiful without a doubt...America...300 million infidels supplying the needs of a pissed off world!

my win mod 70 super express came with sights. but its chambered for 458winmag. its a very good hunting rifle and very versitile. at least if you reload. i think they call em safari express now. i think they dropped the super grade and some of the better quality lines of rifles. most of the rifles that come with sights and bolt action are african big game type rifles and north american bigger game rifles. my old mod 70 338 winmag also had open sights.

the cz550 express sights are vastly superior to the winchester sights. the winchesters are very similar to the ruger 10/22 sight. pretty useless by and large.

my winchester is a gorgeous rifle but they dont make em like that anymore. winchester and remington quality has slid quite a bit over the years. the finishes and wood just isnt as pretty as it used to be.
