I'd try a Winchester model 70 in 30-06. Great action. Best out of the box trigger ive seen.
Also, I like the a-bolts better than the x-bolts. I hate plastic on guns.

The caming action of the Ruger #1 is about the same as most lever actions I believe.

I have a winchester 88 lever action chambered in .308. I love it.

Funny how all my firearms fall into that category.

I don't full length size... When one reloads sensibly, the possibilities are endless.

I can believe you don't get a 1/10 of the case life I do; when you're full length sizing every time.

I never said that I personally full length resize every time. In fact, I neck size only. What I implied was that some rifle actions, because they lack the caming action of a bolt, will not always allow neck sized ammo to chamber. That being said, my two Ruger #1's function fine w/ only neck sized ammo. I do know a few guys who reload for lever and auto actions that have trouble w/ neck sized ammo.

You are pretending to be an expert on the subject, going off of word of mouth.

Probably off of the word of someone that doesn't understand reloading or their rifle.

If I'm "the exception rather than the rule;' it is because "the rule[s]" are clueless.

if only going to buy one or the other, i would suggest the 30-06 over the 30-30. simply whatever the 30-30 can do so can the 30-06 plus more. it just has better versatility than the 30-30. but i own both, so go figure!

I've owned my Marlin lever 30-30 carbine since the mid 60's when I bought it used. I love this gun and highly recommend it. It has performed flawlessly in all sorts of weather and situations. Good luck in your search.
