it will work fine. i dont do it just cuz cleaning the gunk out is sorta a pita.
the 45-70 is a fantastic cartridge for jut about everything and the marlins are stupid strong rifles. you cant stuff enough powder in the case t blow one up.
local lgs here had a customer that used pistol powder instead of rifle powder and shot an entire tube of that stuff before the breach lock failed...
i saw the rifle and it was just a sheared part where the bolt refused to stay in battery.
low pressue black powder wont hurt it long as you dont leave airgaps in the case like C3 said.
blakpowder and air gaps means detonation. thats a verrrrry bad thing.
