87grn V-max (6mm (.243)), shot a coyote with it at 150 yards and he dropped with out a flinch.

Best cartridge?? I'm not a fan of standard calibers, but I don't think there is a "BAD" caliber as long as the hunter is responsible and has reasonable skill. My favorites are .44-40 in a repro 1892 w/ an octagonal 24" barrel. It gets up to past .44 mag velocity although the bullet is only 205gr. Great 100 yard rifle. 9.3x57 is also a favorite. That 286gr .366 bullet traveling at 2100fps MV hits like a freight train at 100 yards, no real recoil. I would also not hesitate to use an M38 in 6.5x55 or a K31 in 7.5x55 Although the 7.5 is basically an older version of the .308. I love the 6.5x55 w/ 129gr..140gr on whitetail. My 1600 is set up w/ a 4x32mm scope and is a great 300 yard rifle. There is very little felt recoil. 8x57 is what started it all for me. I love the caliber. It is also the Father to the .30-06. One of the best loads I use is a 175gr pro hunter over IMR4320 at close to 2800fps., but find them much more accurate at closer to 2700fps. I also have become very fond of Barnes TSX and TTSX in 160gr and 180gr. Lastly 7mm Rem Mag. Started years ago w/ the 150 and 175gr., but have changed to 129,140, and 160 gr.. The 129grSP has more then enough punch at 400 yards, the other 2 are better suited for Elk as they are Barnes TSX. 140gr ballistic tips in this caliber just don't do the trick under 100 yards. All these rifles make it fun also. The 7MMRM is the newest, purchased in 1992. The rest of my dedicated hunters are Swede's built in the '40's through early '60's. All except the 7mm have irons as the primary and one as back up, one can use either.

I like the Winchester XP series bonded ammo. If you look at the picture of the doe I shot the slug expanded very quickly, it didn't hit a bone. The XP3 slug almost cut the does head off. The side that is up is the entrance wound. You can see part of the exit wound. A bullet of the same design fired from a high velocity rifle would turn marginal shots into clean kills. The Winchester XP series is a new product as far as bullets go, it was introduced in 2009.

Bye the way, I just finished supper. We fried a section of the does tenderloin. It was tender and yummy!! Given the choice between a young doe and a large buck I will take the young doe every time. I plan to use every antlerless tag I can legally get my hands on.

30-06 150 gr. Sierra I have used the 165 with good results and have toyed with the Nosler ballistic tip but I always go back to what has served me well for over 50 years.

I have always loved the .444 Marlin,I have heard lots of stories of it's stopping power and had first hand experience with it and it is a game stopper at medium range.I also have earned respect for the .270 Winchester after seeing my buddy drop 3 deer with one.I just bought a .308 Winchester to hunt with this year and I hope for it to be my new favorite.

It is one of the most efficient and effective rounds available.

The 7x57 in my Ruger #1 single shot w/ handloaded 154 grain Hornadys. Why? This bullet is the most accurate in my rifle.
