New England Firearms / Harrington & Richardson makes a very serviceable 45-70. NEF is a subsidiary of the same company that owns Marlin.

I went looking for a 45-70 last week. A friend told me he saw the Marlin 1895G guide gun at Bud's for $507, which seemed like a good price, but when I asked at Dicks they said they could special order the 1895 (slightly longer barrel) for the same price and I don't have to pay shipping or a transfer fee. With a little luck it'll be in this week.

Love to have one but that's a little out of the price range right now.

Default Browning 1886

I'd say the best new made 45-70 is the Browning Japanese Made 1886

It might be well made but it has the worst butt design. It is literally an arm breaker. It has happened.
