Without a doubt everyone's gonna tell you Marlin.I used to own a Marlin in .444 and it was a great rifle,if I was going to get a 45-70 and I was going to be using standard ammo i'd definitley get the one with the 18" barrel,It just looks cool and handy to me.

I saw a marlin for sale in a dicks ad that I got and I really wanted it. I just always wanted a marlin but never got one and I'm not sure why.

Marlin, Winchester, Browning's limited run on the 1886 centenial model, and Sharps rifles particularly the Shilo Sharps.

Fairly high on my want list is a Marlin in .45-70. It being a modern firearm
you can load 'em up and not worry on if it is a safe load.

Take yer pick- Marlin, Winchester, Sharps- and although I am a long time Marlin fan, the Ruger #1 in 45-70 is a pretty rifle.

Not quite true. The max loads for the Ruger #1 and #3 are unsafe in a Marlin. There is specific loading data for the Marlin rifles available. Do not use Ruger data in a Marlin.
