They are a great bullet for accuracy but the deer I shot I could of smacked it with a stick , I wasn't gonna wait for 50 yard shot an I don't like core lokt for nething. Im with you I've rather reload than buying factory ammo, I now found my gun I like an planning on another 300 win mag in the model 700 sendero in the future. I now use a 270 in remington 700 bdl,7mm08 ruger special run only made 3000 of them, and a weatherby vangaurd 308. I retired my baby the winchester model 70 pre Browning owned 270 weatherby mag.

Dont have to have one either there are so many great rifles out now, just a thought im guessin most of yer shots are close?? How about a 243 , 25/06, something in the less magnum cals?? They are easy on recoil an a blast to shoot plus plenty of punch for deer out to round 300, if that long shot is needed just a thought tho im not tryin to say the 300 is to much gun heck the belted mags are my favorite hands down
