Default for long distance ground hogs....right?

For being able to really reach out and touch something....

.338 Lapua Magnum, the Cheytac, most of the Barrett catalog

Any of these, properly set up - re-worked stock, action, trigger, match or handload ammo, etc. - should suffice.

Default Unrealistic

at 1500 yards, over 2/3 of a mile....nothing is hit reliable on a man sized target.

Paint is with a lazer and deploy a laser guided mun ition !

99% of shooters couldnt do it...increase probability with $ 10,000 + in rifle, optics and custom rifle. 50BMG or 15.7mm russian maybee

Where would you sight it in ???

.338-378 Weatherby Magnum. Good to whatever distance you want to hold at. No one can "Hold" to 1,500 yards. You've been reading far too many SOF magazines. Bill T.

Default Ldrd ( Long Distance Resolution Device )

Ok flavored gorilla; I'm going to stick my neck out here, on my very first post with this outfit, there are a few options available to your question, some will agree others won't, This thread caught my eye because this is what I do, I have been shooting longrange and loading my own for sometime now, 25 years or so, First there are no rifles that shoot 1500 yards with any kind of consistant accuracy, yes some hail marry's have been pulled off, and they look good, but could not be repeated consistantly, if you are talking a shoulder fired rifle, you are more in the range of 1000 to 1200 realisticly, but lets keep it at 1000 for now, The best would be several thousand's of dollars, and probably would have to take out a second loan on your house. A rifle you could realisticly afford is in the 1000 to 3500 not including glass, I personaly feel the remington 700 sendero 11 stainless and fluted in 300 ultramag is one of the best options, I have 4 all dressed out they are as listed .204 Ruger, 7 mm ultramag, 338 ultramag, and 300 ultramag that is my primary sniper rifle, It is good as any I have ever shot, The best sniper rifle will get you no ware, if you dont know how to shoot it, There is more math than most people realize, after 400 yards everything comes into play from tempeture, humidity, wind, lighting, elevation, cold bore, hot bore, amunition selection, heartbeat, breathing, optics, quality of shooter, a few months at the range, dose not make a sniper, once you are really serious, the reloading of the perfect round for said application, the right primer, the right brass, powders, bullet weight size and bullet construction is enough to confuse most people, thats probably why there are so few who enjoy my sport, In the whole world of shooting, longrange shooters are probably the smallest percentage of all shooting sports, I could go on and on for houres, but to answer your question, I would go with the above information.Hope this helps.

Default 1500 yards

To begin with,I cringe at the term sniper rifle-don't let the antis hear you say that. Now,yes, you can reliabily hit at 1500 yards. I did as well as watch others. In civie form, there are 3 cartridges that fill the ticket:338 laupa mag,416 barrett, and good ol 50 bmg. To be able to do this requires extensive if not years of training, and exact estimation of range-thus LONG RANGE laser rangefinder, and match quality rifle/scope costing thousands of dollars. This is the ONLY WAY to get CONSISTANT hits out to 1500 yards. I'm done, now yall can argue with me.
