Maybe wipe some bacon grease on one of the other hunters.

50 bmg would actually be an excellent choice.

Any 12 gauge or larger bore with slugs would be a good chose for close-in 25 yards or less.

All of the other rounds available are a matter of maximum available foot-pounds of energy at your intended shooting distance.

The 338 mag and the 300 RUM rifles are all commonly used on brown bears. Even then, they don't drop right away, so you would need to plan to use your full 3 + 1 box-magazine capacity, and a buddy standing nearby with the same, plus each of you with heavy revolvers as a backup.

This is called dangerous game hunting, because the game can bite you even after you have shot it a bunch of times.

Orangello always comes up with the most novel solutions.

His point is valid though, unless the bear chooses to bite someone else, it is very like to bite you anyway.

There are 4 good choices here, for a backup, 3 of which are actually better than the 44 --

- 454 casull

- 45-70 gov revolver

- 500 S&W magnaported.

45-70. Marlin Lever, handy and deadly!

Also, my S&W 629, 2 1/4 barrel side arm. (for when the bear gets pissed off because I shot it! )

You missed the whole point however.

Besides your rifle, with 3 + 1 loaded, you would also want a heavy sidearm, and a buddy next to you with all of the same. At least.

3 buddies together would be even better. As would 4.

The heavy Smiths are normally better with a much longer heavier barrel on them however.

If you don't get at least three other signatures on your scorecard, the round doesn't count, and you may have to re-bear.

Wow i thought a 50bmg would be overkill, however im probably underestimating the strength of a grizzly.
How tough are these grizzlies to take down i thought a 30-06 would easily do the job and 2+ people???
