Bear hunting with a 30-06

Does anyone know if a 30-06 can take down a bear, such as a Grizzly?

mountainman13 05-23-2012 06:11 PM

Yeah it can. Probably wouldn't be my first choice.

It has been done and more than once. I would use the 220 grain loads.

What would your "first choice" be?

Anything bigger you might have.

I wish you the very best of luck in your bear-killing endevours. Don't forget the .44mag backup revolver, JIC. Becoming food for the bear means YOU have become a part of the problem, at least until it poops.

Thanks for all the advice, now I gotta head to the range and sight in the new x-bolt for my hunt next week

A 30-06 is a hell of a lot more powerful than a 44 mag.
