Barrel life: .17 Rem vs .17 Rem Mach IV/Fireball
Hi,
Most of my shooting is done with a .17HMR and is walkabout vermin shooting. I'm considering buying a Remington CDL chambered in .17 Rem Fireball but, as I shoot about 2,000 rounds a year, I'm concerned over the reputation of the .17 Rem as a barrel burner. I know that the wildcat .17 Mach IV and new .17 Rem Fireball have lower powder charges than the .17 Rem and that barrel fouling is probably reduced - but can anyone confirm whether there is a significant improvement in barrel life ? Thanks in advance. |
barrel life?
I could not say for sure, I can only assume with such a small bore I would not expect much, guessing 12 to 15 hundred accurate rounds if you keep her clean, I clean mine every 10 or 12 shots, but thats just me guessing, I might be all wet!!
It will be interesting what others have to say about it, I'll keep watching this thread. |
You really need to go to Small Caliber News I look around.
Or try looking at Saubier.com That is the most current and up to date info in the small caliber world. I know a few guys that hang outover on the Saubier message boards. These are guys that all shoot sub calibers (Calibres under .224") So you will get good answers over there. |
