Default Barrel length

Hey I was wondering how much different barrel lengths would effect the speed of the bullet. For example like the nosler reloading book says for a .223 rem with a 50 gr bullet with a case overall length of 2.260 with so and so powder it says it shoots 3350 fps. I do that and notice that they shoot about 3050 fps. The only difference is barrel between my load and there's. Would 2 inches of extra barrel length make that big of a difference?

Barrel length does make a difference in the velocity of a projectile, because the longer the barrel the more time the powder has to burn. As to how much difference it makes that depends on the caliber, powder, and the barrel length.

The 2" may account for half of it the rest is temp, altitude, humidity and condition of the bore and the bullets themselves do they have the same amount of bearing surface etc.
So many variables so little time
