Anyone hear anything good about these? I saw that iraqveteran8888 (he has some great YouTube videos I highly suggest checking him out) did an ATI conversion and since I have two beat up M53s I figure it would be a fun project for one of them. The setup includes a new polymer stock, a bent bolt handle (which is actually pretty ugly if you ask me) and a scope mount. I've never done any drilling and tapping on a rifle before and I think it will be a good learning experience. Ill make sure to keep you guys posted along the way!

Agreed on the bolt, I don't know how much the cost, but I would recommend one of the russain sniper bolts over hacking up the one you have. Just me.

That's impressive. Ill have to look him up if I get another 91/30. The kit has already been ordered lol

It's never too late, until metal has been removed. He even has a quick turnaround option where you can swap a bolt body with him.

Personally, just the fact that the bolt handle in the kit is held on with screws is enough to turn me off. I could forgo the screws and weld it on and dress it, and I would be happy with that.

And loctite, don't forget loctite. It's tough as nails. I've used it on starter mounting bolts on a commercial lawn mower and it hasn't failed me yet. Putting on a couple tac welds would just be some extra insurance I guess.

No, I mean completely welding it. Even filling I'm the screw goes with welding. Then dressing the welds to look nice. I believe it's the only way I'd be able to tolerate it myself. I just don't think these look good with screws holding them on. I've known people to use it and they seem to hold up just fine, I just can't stand the way it looks. I feel like a bolt body and handle should look machined from one piece.

This is all just personal opinion.

I have several mosin nagants and two are sporters, one with the ATI stock and bolt handle. Wasn't too hard to do and works surprisingly well. The scope mount works too. Fun to shoot and inexpensive. Agree you must remember the Locktite!

Mosin ATI kit...

The last Mosin I owned I put a Boyd's laminated on (looked great!!) and traded it to a friend who was having a pig problem for a Ben Pearson compound bow (didn't have one and I wanted to start shooting more archery with my son in the back yard).... Didn't do anything to the bolt because I never bothered putting a scope on.
Anyhoo.... I digress, I put an ATI (the box stated "MADE IN THE USA" also!! That was a nice surprise) on my son's Marlin 795 and painted it with Tester's model spray paint (...held it like champ!!) I'll post some picks when I get back from vacation... I'm thinking about getting another Mosin before too long (believe it or not I kinda miss that hard-kickin' commie bitch)... and a custom stock and scope is definately in the sceme of the build!
Anyhoo (part2)... Post some pics down the trail when you get it done. I'm excited for anyone who does a build!!
PS...Thank you for the bolt info too fellas!!

Here's a couple pictures of the bolts that I'm dealing with. They're pretty ugly and I'm going to try to polish them up before the parts get here. If anyone has any tips or tricks as to make this easier or go any more smooth my ears and eyes will be open. I have a high grit sandpaper to start and I will eventually use a Dremel tool with a polishing wheel and polishing compound to make them really shine.
