One advantage of the very low-cost but powerful MN rifles also is the ammo which so far has not really gone up much, if buying in bulk.

The Ammo section at 'Gunbroker' last night displayed lots of x54R ammo with current bids (or "buy now"), which are equal or less than the lowest wholesalers-with shipping a constant cost.
One lowest-price seller in Stillwater, OK published a photo of the warehouse where many crates of the ammo are heaped up in nice, neat stacks.

And for short-range, although 7.62x39 ammo has gone up, it is much more widely used than M-1 Carbine ammo,
i.e. by many millions of SKS, AKs, Mini 30s.

Jumping in a little late, but....

12 Gauge SxS

Ruger 10/22

.38 wheelgun.

All three are idiot proof, require minimal cleaning, can be shot by anyone from grandma to big bubba and can be used for hunting small to large game. A gun is only as good as its user, and if the user can't clear a simple jam or do a field strip, an M14 is only as useful as you can throw it.

SOCOMs can't reach out that far. Some of the tuned M14s and the Match M1As can, but a SOCOM is good out to about 500 or 600 meters.
