Default Arisaka Type 99

My grandpa recently passed away who fought in the Korean war and going through his stuff I found this gun I'm sure it's an arisaka type 99 the ones the us converted to 30.06 my gun smith said its trash what do y'all think I should do looks like he bashed someday ones skull in with the stock

How's the chamber and bore look?
Stock can always be restored if its that bad.

the arisaka is not a trash gun by any stretch. for a while hey were in high demand by big game hunters who liked to use the extremely strong action for rechambering them for big game calibers.

yours looks pretty trashed. i would take it to a different gunsmith that wasnt talking out his butt to find out if its in working condition or not and if its been rechambered or not.

Atleast pull the tape off and glue the stock so it has some dignity

Disable it? Uh oh. Anyway, JonM is quite right. Interesting tests proved the Arisaka the stongest action of WWII and the Nambu the most accurate pistol.

Oh, and lower the sight and find a bayo too if you are gonna hang it up.
