Default another new one no Idea what it is

Ok guys I was given a gun last night but have no Idea what it is so kinda hope some one can help me out with this one the only markings on it are a M425 stamped into the left side of the receiver and a star stamped on the top of the chamber. It has a 42 stamped into the stock. Also has a straight bolt on it.

It's an Arisaka. Japanese military, WWII.

Someone will be along shortly and tell you if it's a type 38 or 99, 6.5
or 7.7mm, etc.

I'm going to guess that it's a Type 99 in 7.7mm.

Nice little tutorial on Arisaka markings here:
