I shot through a coconut with my air rifle, .177 shooting at 100 fp+ because I dieseled it.( Put oil in the chamber behind the pellet. causes an explosion increasing velocity but is very bad for the gun) I was using the gamo ''armor piercing'' pellets. Lead pellets with a copper bb in the tip. They are powerful but a single shot is not suitable for self defense IMO.

This might sound silly...Do all the high end air guns shoot pellets or do some shoot BBs?

Depends, pellets have a slightly larger diameter than a bb so bb's tend to roll out of the barrel on most guns, but with wadding you can shoot them. Although, im not sure why you would.

If your interested in purchasing an air rifle, I can try to point you in the right direction just let me know. Keep in mind some air rifles are ''hold sensitive'' and some aren't. Look up air rifle artillery hold on YouTube. It basically is letting the air rifle rest on your hand instead of holding it firmly.

Thanks Beast. I really want a high end one, but at the moment I have more pressing firearms needs. I figure if I lay the proper groundwork by doing my homework, when the time comes I won't be disappointed.

A bb will do the trick. You might get lucky with a heaver pellet but ive always used a bb.
