Advice please
Being new to the sport my first rifle I bought new now I am looking at buying some second hand rifles is there any advice on what to look for ( as best I can ) to see that the rifle is in good condition and will serve me well by the way I am looking at purchasing a .22 magnum

Pick a model you like. Do a little research on it to see if it has known issues. Look it over really good and do a function test.

Look at the bore and crown, and ask how much it has been shot.

Look for signs of do it yourself gun smithing. If there are screws or pins that are beat up from someone using the wrong tools, pass on it. The inside is probably in similar or worse condition.

Rust is a big giveaway. Dings and scratches to excess especially on the muzzle is a no-no. Cracked parts. Dirty bore. Bores should be bright and shiny. If the person selling a used gun isnt willing or able to run a couple patches down the bore skip it, the dirt is likely hiding rust.
