Sounds like our wives have us in the same boat. I'm limited to moderate spending or trading for the time being. She's wearing me out about a house!
Are you looking for a rifle/scope package or do you want to mount your own optics?

Either one suits me just fine. The package deal may be more ecinomical though.

2x Tango.
Look at Stevens 200 and consider .308 but 30.06 to me is where it's at.

Anybody ever shoot a Weatherby Vanguard rifle? I just came across them on Cabela's and they have excellent reviews there.

The Weatherby Vanguard is a Howa 1500 with a different stock. Good rifles.

I got a barely used HOWA 1500 in .270 Win a few years ago with the Simmons Aetec 2.8X10 scope and two boxes of Ammo for $400.00

I have not yet used it for hunting but did work up a load for it the other day. Shooting a 130 Gr. Sierra Pro Hunter with 53.2 Gr of IMR 4350. I am happy with this group.

Here is 150 Gr. Remington Core Lokt White Tail Pro Hunter factory Ammo out of the Howa 1500 in .270

This gun has about a 4.5 lbs. trigger pull.

I'm not that up to date on bolt guns but I bought a Rem. 700 in .270 win and I am very happy with my purchase its a nice light weight gun for when you have to hike up and down the pa mountains and as far as the shooting I kept a 1.5 group of 5 at 100 yards and I am not that good of shot lol so in my opinion you can't go wrong with the rem 700
