9mm or 223?

I want to get an AR the problem is I shoot once a week so I wanna keep it as cheap as possible I've looked at the 9mm and 223 can't decide what to get I understand I loose accuracy at longer range with the 9 but it's cheaper to shoot than the 233. I need help with my decision!!!!! Any advice or input would be great.

What kind of shooting do you do? Do you plan on building it, or buying it complete?

If you want to shoot targets at longer distances with pretty good accuracy (100-200 yards or more), go with 5.56. Just make sure to get it chambered in 5.56, not .223. They are both basically the same round, but you cannot shoot 5.56 out of a .223 due to 5.56 being a hotter load. You can shoot .223 out of a 5.56 though.

If you just want to send rounds down range at shorter distances, go with the 9mm or .22 LR (if you want it really cheap.).

Hope this helps.

I own a home range so basically just target shooting I have a 22lr colt love it! But I want something with a bigger round. the longest shot I'll be taking is probably 200 yards. is the 5.56 any cheaper than the 223 rounds?

seems if you look around you will find that both are going to be pretty close in price , were talking pennies per round , 50 rds of 9mm at $9 is $0.18 @ shot, I dont buy 9mm in bulk so I dont know how much cheaper it can really get . I bought 1000 rds of .223 for $189 @ $0.189 per rd . Pick what you will but if your looking at shooting over 100 yards the 9mm would not be my choice

9mm effective range is about the same as 22LR. Get the 5.56

Definetly leaning towards the 5.56 if the 9 is going to be about the same as my 22 there's no point in investing in it.

Forget the 9mm, 100 yards an accurate don't go together with a 9mm. Ether get a the AR or for very good accuracy get a quality .22lr or 17hmr bolt rifle. The 17hmr will shoot to 200 yard amd ether can shoot 100 yard groups no mill spec AR's can do. Look at CZ or savage buy a decent 6-24 power scope. That would be a rifle you could use at rimfire matchs at the area ranges to. Even the best .22 ammo is still cheaper to shot.

trying to keep it more of a tactical look. But I would like a .17 hmr but there few and far between for a decent one where I live :(
