I too shot both and I tell those here on the south land the 7mm-08 was just made for the hunting here (even though I did kill an elk in Montana with it). It comes in a small package and has ballistics similar to the ever popular 270 Winchester and easier on the shoulder than either the 270 or the 308. GREAT choice for a new/small shooter!!! The 6.5/264 (Remington 260) is also a good choice, but I couldn't find a youth model or a LH gun in that caliber!!!
