Go with the 7-08, lovely caliber, just go with a regular model savage, not the axis. Granted they are light.

My thought exactly, always keep your hands on what you have if you can afford to do so, I hate parting with guns unless they are pieces of crap. For hunting deer and such I prefer the larger 30 cal bullet to the 7mm also. Personally, my deer rifles are 30-30 from when I was a kid, 3006 gramps gave me for graduation, and a 308 carbine I just picked up last year.

.284, .308 a difference of .024". Now I am in know way saying that one is better then the other, but w/ the High BC and SD of 7mm bullets, a lighter bullet can be equal to a heavier .308 bullet at a given velosity and distance.
Keeping the rifle is the way to go.

That's what I'm going to do is keep it and in the future switch the barrel to a 7x57

Were I hunt we are usually shooting through some degree of brush and what not, so that's why I like the bigger bullet, if I have the possibility of hitting a twig or something I'd rather do it with a 30 cal or larger than anything smaller. My dad has a 284win its a decent gun he likes what it does to deer
