The SPS stock is straight garbage. It's "free floated" until you put pressure on the forearm. With that being said, I was shooting MOA with it. Once I swapped it out for a B&C my groups shrunk a bit.

If you replace the stock with a McMillan or equivalent you get a better stock. If you replace it with a low cost drop-in, not so much.

That's exactly what my plan is........plus I'm 6'6 and I need a extension and cheek rest.

Also does a stock change cause more risk on the sps because of the lack of floating barrell
In the past year I have purchased 4 rifles (700 SPS Rem.) in 4 calibers. 308, 223, 30-06, and 300 Win Mag. The 308 and 223 have the Varmint Barrel. I love them all.

I like what this guy has to say. Remimgton is still a good brand, the 770 is garbage. I have shot one and it jammed like crazy. The 700 is tried and true, as stated before. It would be a great choice for shooting out to 500yds.

The one on the SPS is. It flexes and touches the barrel when you put any weight on it. I'm not sure about other hogue stocks but this one sucks.
