Ron, Cumberland, Md. Great hunting area. I was from Baltimore and some deer and grouse hunting in the Cumberland and Oakland areas, beautiful country!! You should be in the first week of rifle deer season if the dates have not changed in the past 25 years. How did all that snow you guys got last year impact the deer herd?

Tuner, yes we are in the fist week of our deer season. Last winter was very hard on the herd, they had a rough time getting any food . They ate things I've never seen them eat before such as juniper and leyland cypress (so much for "deerproof" shubbery) . I fed them corn and they would wait for me to come home from work and damn near follow me down the road when I was throwing it out. I haven't seen very many big bucks this year. There seems to be a good many deer, I just haven't seen anything large with horns where I hunt. Ron...

Ron,

If this guy knows the smith you are in good shape. My father-in-law built guns similar to that one, professionally for many years. They would come into the shop time and time again with different owners. The guns all seemed to have their own story. I too think the gun is a good deal even if you need/want a new barrel.

Well folks I saw the rifle today, the seller had a bore light so I looked through the bore and didn't see anything unusual so I told him I would take it. $700 for the rifle with mcmillan stock, shilen match grade barrel, there has been some trigger work as the trigger has been lightened but still is remington. The seller threw in 250 rounds of loaded ammo ready to go and about 200 or so empty brass cases in 6mm, and a leupold mount and 1'' rings. I just had to say yes, I will try to load some pics in the next couple of days. I guess now I am going scope hunting (as soon as deer season is over). Thanks to all who helped me with advice and comments etc. Ron...
