You consider that a varmint round?

Fastest thing I know of is the .17 Rem. at a little over 4700 fps, that you can buy over the counter.

no I don't consider it a varmint round however it's up to the speed which you are talking and extremely accurate and can shoot however far you would like it to and I have used it a few times for varmint but it dosnt leave much of your kill afterwords hahaha

not to mention that someone was talking of necking down cartridges to get that speed and it's already been don't with that calibre I thinks it's a 404 Jeffries necked to .30 cal

Try a .22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer. They were designed to hit 5000 fps, but sadley, they cannot reach this speed. They will go 4600 fps though.

There is also the .17/50 BMG. I have no idea how fast it goes.

There is also the 5mm/35 SMc. It can reach over 4800 fps with a 30 grain bullet.
