Hey guys i was looking into putting together a 338 lapua from scratch and was wondering who makes what and what to stay away from?

What are you hoping to build? What is your budget?

First thing I would do is make a list of what you want to use to build your gun. Second, do the research. Look around and find who builds the parts you and how much you want to spend. third and most important of all and it ties in with my second point,and that's your budget. How much do you want to spend max.

Well this was going to be an extended build just a fun project for over the years. I was thinking a McMillen stock, I'm not sure who makes good receivers, and get a custom barrel turned for it (bull barrel fluted). Dont have a set price but trying to keep the gun without optics to around 5000.

Surgeon Rifles makes a great receiver for the .338 Lapua, That's a good place to start. One thing to consider though is that it makes no sense to build a Formula 1 race car if one does not have a track to race on. If you don't have at LEAST a 600 yard range available to you building a .338 Lapua makes little sense. If you do then this will indeed be a great project.

Oh well I have a place to shoot so that's no big deal. And I'm hold on to this gun for a while treat it right and use it for everything hope fully take it to new zealand for red stag.
