I'm looking at a rifle chambered in .338 Lapua. The Lapua ammo is expensive.
.338 Federal
.338 Rem. Mag.
.338 Marlin Express
.338 Win. Mag.
.338 Rem Ultra Mag.
I meant could any of these be chambered and fired from a Lapua .338 rifle. The No no & no says it all.

What do you mean compatible? Can you fire it in the same chamber? I think not. However, I'm thoroughly satisfied with my .338 Win Mag. Kills things dead.

If you want a comparable round then yes. Some people just don't wish to LEARN or THINK. Guys not everyone is a master word smith like you.

The 338 edge will get you in the area of the 338 Laupa. People call the edge the poor mans Laupa.

338 Edge - History and Development

The edge is just a 300 RUM necked up to 338. The draw back is that it is a wildcat and you would have to have your rifle rechambered or rebarreled into it then you have to reload your own ammo.

I have a buddy that built one on a Remmy 700 RUM action he dropped it into a McMillan A4 stock and topped it with a 5-25x56mm Nightforce. It shoots great out to 1000 yards.

I have an Edge and it shoots nearly identical drops as the LM..
Way cheaper too.

If I'm not mistaken the .338-378 Weatherby Magnum cartidge is nipping at the heels of the .338 Lapua Magnum. Unfortunately its a wildcat as well and can cost just as much to shoot as the 338LM.

.338-378 Weatherby Magnum Is quite a bit ahead of the LM, not nipping at the heals. Even the Edge is considered slightly ahead of the LM. All big boys for sure. The advantage of the LM is it is a factory load. An expensive one but you don't need to load your own. I have a number of friends w/ edges, Shawn Carlock in Id can answer your ?'s if you go that route.

I shoot a 338 Remington Ultra Mag. It is almost as fast as the 338 edge. I would choose a 338 edge or ultramag over a lapua if you reload for ease of finding available brass.

I believe he was saying the .338-.378 is the wildcat, and as such, could cost the same to shoot on a per round basis as the .338 LM
