Wich bullet is most popular and easier to find?, wich one cost's less? Wich one travels further?, wich one is more powerful and accurate? Which one would you use?

.30-06 is the most common, in that it's sold almost everywhere.\
.308 is cheaper due to military usage.

I'd recommend the .30-06 if you just want to hunt, and the .30-8 if you intend to shoot a lot.

yep, 308 milsurp stuff is a LOT cheaper than 3006 ammo, almost no "ball" 06 ammo gets sold anymore. the softpoint hunting ammo costs 2x as much as milsurp, so you are talking another 30c a shot. If you are already highly skilled or are only taking slowfire hunting shots, the 06 is ok, but if you want/need to train at rapidfire for combat, best get a 308. Even better, for shtf and most parts of US (ie, deer being the bigggerst game) of course, get a 223 and a .22lr conversion unit for it. Unless elk or moose are your main goals, the 60 gr Nosler Partition 223 softpoint gives adequate penetration for deer, hogs, and men.

Both are sold everywhere you can buy ammo and are similarly priced for same brand ammo. For example, a box of Rem Corelokt in .308 or 30-06 is around $20/box.

Technically they use they use the same bullets (projectiles). The .308 Win is a shortened version of teh .30-06 round. So the .30-06 has more powder capacity and thus has potential for higher velocity and the ability to use heavier projectiles of the same diameter. The .308 being a shorter cased round can have some accuracy advantanges as far as more conistent powder burn rates go. Also it fits in shorter actions that can be made more rigid with less weight, and therefore has more accuracy potential in the actual rifle platform that they are fired form if all other things were equal.

Choosing one over teh other would depend on how the rifle was tobe used. What type of shooting? What range? What kind of targets? What kind of hunting, walking/stalking hunting, or hunting from a stand or shooting from a bench?

I reload for the 30-06 so Im partial to that caliber. Not knocking the .308 its close to a 30-06 I just have always loved the 30-06 and it was the first caliber I ever reloaded. I dont think the recoil difference is very much. If you can handle the .308's recoil you should be able to handle the 06's recoil as well. I dont think factory 06 ammo is loaded near as hot as it can be by most ammunition manufacturers. When you reload you can squeeze all the velocity out of the big case if you need or want it.
