300 blackout or 6.8 or 308

I building anther ar an I'm not sure what caliber to go with. I was set on a ar10 in 308 but most of the lowers in stock are still over priced!! I what this project to be a long range rifle but wanna stay ur 1200$!! Please share your thoughts..

I would cough up the extra dough on the lower... you'll save that money later because you'll be able to get. 308 cheaper than the other calibers listed...

For long range it has to be .308. I have a 6.8 and love it. But finding anything but 115 grain ammo for the last year has been a pain in the ass. Even the tactical load 115 grain move at about 2600 fps. Not top notch for long range. If you could find the low weight ammo it would be perfect for long range but we all know the ammo issues we are currently going though.

Oh and the 300 blackout is made for close range. It's designed as a heavy suppressible close range cartridge. Not ideal for long range.

Exactly!

Consider how many shots you will take in the next few years and then look at the difference in ammo per round. My guess is that .308 will be less expensive overall even if you spend more on the AR-10 lower and the more you shoot the more you will save.

I've found .308 and 6.8 to be very close in price depending on the type of ammo available. Still would stick to .308 for long range. If anybody has any leads on .308 for 80 - 90 cents a round please show me.

Any ideals on what lower I should get?? I I'd like to stay in between 250-300$ an I also what a 24in barrel but have no ideal witch brand to go with??

308 because you can use it for everything. 300 Blackouts and 6.8s are much more limited.

I love my 300 Blk but it is a 200yd gun. 6.8 is a 400 yd gun and 308 is a 600+ yard gun.
My plan is to get a 308 bolt gun to go with the 300 Blk. They use the same bullets for reloading.

Another choice is 6.5 Grendel. It can hit at 1000 yards and is built on a standard AR platform. Everything is going to be hard to find in this climate.
