I'm looking for a .30-06 rifle with a detachable box mag. I don't care what brand, and i would like it to have 10rd detachable box mag, aftermarket or stock I don't care...

As far as I know a 10 round magazine for any long action cartridge for a bolt rifle is not made. The maximun capacity that I'm aware of is 5 rounds for long actions. They do make 10 round magazines for short action bolt rifles.

Why is this? I know there are limits to mags for hunting purposes, but not everyone is using it for hunting....And what would the difference be between long & short actions as far a mags go?

I've looked in the past for 10 round mags for long action cartridges such as 30-06, 300 win. mag., 7mm Rem., etc. and they just dont seem to be made.

My 300 Win. Mag. target rifle uses 5 round AI magazines and theres no way they would fit in a short action mag well. Conversly a short action magazine would not work in a long action mag well for these type of detachable bottom metal magazines. I bought (8) 5 round AI magazines for this rifle and it is a disadvantage when it comes to the guys with short actions that have 10 round magazines in timed events. This is one of the main reasons I'm in the process of having a rifle built in 260 Rem. (6.5X51mm) for the 1000 yard stuff that I recently have gotten myself into. The 300 Win. Mag. will be used for beyond 1000 yards when the new rifle is done. If you want to go to .308 Win., 260 Rem. or 243 Win., etc.. you can get 10 round magazines for this ammunition.

You might check out the DBM (detachable magazine bottom metal) offered by Kwik Klip for the Rem. 700. It's fairly cheap and says that 10 round magazines for 30-06 are offered for their set up. I'd definately check before buying though.

Wyatt's Outdoor Detachable Magazine Assembly - Remington 700 .223 5.56 .308, 7.62 NATO, .270/.30-06, Belted Mags, Rem Ultra Mags & .338 Lapua
