Reg sluugs don't bother me
I. Someday might. Want to get an elk or sompting so
I know the 30-06 is capable. Want to practice with it. And get good befor I decide to go just unshur of recoil
I am not intrested in expensive calibers to shote just good popular one not hard to get ammo for .....and could do elk maby black bear or wild boars.... thanks
I also like the 243 its under powered I. Think

The Marlin XL7/.30-06 comes with a factory-installed premium recoil pad.
My old 1951 Marlin 336 is in .30-30, and feels about the same.

And it'll drop black bear, hog, white-tail, mulies...anything in North America.
.300-06 has even taken Brown Bear...but most folks since the 90's use something bigger.

What once was known a "Weatherby eye" has happened to most shoooters-once. For accurate shooting, the first requirement is good position. Don't get in the habit of "crawling the stock". When you put the butt of the rifle into your rear shoulder do so firmly- right into the pocket, when the rifle recoils your whole body (head included) will roll with the recoil.
As has previously been noted start shooting with lighter bullet weights ( perhaps Remington's managed recoil rounds.
If you are really worried about getting "wacked" you could get some extended rings to move your scope further forward.
