I believe it's the most popular hunting round, but as far as perfect, "so-so".

So then tell us all which 'one' round can do it all better?

Myself and all the gun writers who know a lot more than I do and have written about the 30.06's versatility for decades all want to know.

another point in favor of the 30-06 is to look at how many other cartridges are based directly and indirectly off of it. the 25-06, the 270, the 280 Rem., the 243, the 308, the 7mm-08 and so on, and so on.

the 30-06 IMO isn't perfect, but it's pretty dang close. if you don't reload, it has some very good varied factory ammo available. if you reload, then it's potential is even more expanded.

look at how many different brands and types of rifles that are chambered in the 30-06. bolt action, semi auto, fully auto, single shot, pump, and lever.

Bakers choice I'm sure. My .300 win mag suits me just fine having the right glass too

I would suggest that there is no "perfect" round, but the .30/06 is probably one of the most versatile ones out there and can be adapted to many hunting situations. At least here in the US. I don't know about elsewhere.

it's been used with success worldwide on certain game. i have even read that some have used it on elephants with success. but i wouldn't recommend it for that!

there is no perfect cartridge. it just doesn't exist IMO. but the 30-06 is pretty danged close in versatility.
