Ballistically it's amazing, hence the current selection of 6.5 fodder includng the 6.5 Grendel which was supposed to be an excellent choice for the military in the AR platform. The 6.5 x 55 has got a very long OAL due in part to the very long bullets in 140gr, so I don't know how easily it could be adapted to the AR. Mags would have to be bigger than those on the AR10. It would be neat if it could be done - I'd buy one for long range semi shooting.

I just want to make an interesting statement. You guys remind of sitting around with the guys. We NEVER stay on topic, thought it was just the group of guys I hang around with, but I just think it's in the male DNA.

Hey, where's the fun in stayig on topic?

Both of my parents' 6.5s are M38 WW2 era ones. One is in almost new condition and the other is a little more worn, and this one will be getting sporterised with a good trigger and better stock, and probably a cock on open conversion too.

That's what I have - I thought it was a Mod.36 but they didn't make a 36! I get the 38 and the 96 confused. The 96 was much longer. Mine is a 1943 Husqvarna.
