I had P.O. Ackley of Salt Lake City build a .280 Remington on the then new Mdl. 77 Ruger action. This was in the 1970s and shooting long range iron animals off hand at 500 meters was all the rage. The .280 served me very well at many matches. Bob Mileck was editor of Shooting Times in those days. Bob was also one of my mentors in those days.
I eventually went on the IPSC circuit and left the old .280 to a friend. He was living in the "Big Horn Mtns" and to this day he hunts meat with that old .280.

well in my neck of the woods here in East Texas, the 280 Remington is a rare thing and after researching them over ten to twelve years ago when talking about rifle calibers with my father, i was on the hunt for a rifle in 280. well ia found one last year after many years of searching gun stores, pawn shops and gun shows. it became more of a quest after my fondness for 7mm calibered rifles came into play. so i was like a pig in slop when i found this older Ruger M77V in 280 Remington, (circa 1978 DOM). all original, even had the factory Ruger rings, 24" heavy barrel and it cost me $470 at my LGS.
