270 vs 7mm-08 bullet damage

Which of these two has a greater performance?

Depends. Normal hunting ranges I would take the 7mm-08 all day long. Out west on really flat ground with +400 yard shots I would probably go with the .270. :)

Just my .02

I love the 7mm-08! Its my favorite cartridge ever! It is incredibly versatile Especialy if u reload! I have used it on deer and elk and with my custom loads I can make 300 yard shot with ease....kinda lol

They are actually pretty close. Both are accurate. The .270 may have an edge in velocity, but not a lot. The 7mm-08 offers a greater selection of bullet weights which can be important to the handloader. Factory ammo may be a little more plentiful in .270. You might want to consider the fact that the 7mm-08 is built on a shorter action where as the .270 is built on a longer action. So, six of one half a dozen of the other. You can't really go wrong with either.

I wonder? I would go with the .270 WCF for Western hunting. The larger 30-06 engine compared to the smaller .308 engine gives the old .270 an important edge.
And if you are turned on by metrics the .270 is after all a 7.03-06. caliber rifle.

If I had to own just one of them it would be the 7-08. I have used a 270 A LOT and now I own the 7-08. I think the 7-08 is more versatile than the 270 due to bullet selection. Basically, I can do anything the 270 can do with my 7-08 and MORE!!!;)

Short vs long action would be the more critical decision for me.Both chamberings have their strong points.

I agree with all of the above posts. Both are great cartridges. I've never owned a 7-08 but it's close enough my favorite, the .308Win, for me.

Both good rounds. I would choose 7-08 myself due to the amount of meat the higher velocity .270 will ruin at close range.

.68 is not 7mm, it is .270. The 7mm is larger then .270. The 6.5 is smaller then .270. Where does 7.03 come from???? I don't have a 7mm-08, but it is a fine cartridge. I prefer 7mm rem Mag and 6.5x55. .270 is redundant to what I have, and does not add any advantage. What have you been smokin'?
