Less recoil and short action compared to the 270 and 30-06. I really like 150gr Core Lokts in 308 Win.

I would say 30.06 for sure. Remington 770 or 700 is a great inexpensive choice. I believe best bang for the buck. Haha. .270' s are nice but the Ot6 is the way to go. Will drop nething standing in N. America!

Thanks for the input. I have been going back and forth trying to decide. I keep going in with my handful of money and leaving with no gun still indecisive. The first day it was for the .270 ( because that's what I had before) then I thought I maybe 30-06 would be better so when I went back to get an an 06, I thought maybe .308 would be a good option. The last two times I have been into the shop I just stood around like a dufus.

Personnaly, I would not own Either rifle. Not a pissing contest, JMHO. I prefer the Howa flat bottom receiver much better. A '98 action over that. They are more stable.

If you want a rifle very similar to the standard US sniper rifle, then get a Remington 700 in 308 caliber... and if you're interested in that, then you can upgrade it to the 300 Win Mag.

My uncle who I hunt and shoot with all the time has a r770 .223 and a r700 in Ot6 and has dropped many of animals accurately and reliably for years. I'm actually saving for a r700 myself. I had a r770 from big 5 and had no complaints for the dough spent.

I have a 270 wsm and I would feel very comfortable hunting anything in north america. Its all about shot placement. The only down side is if I do not let the barrel cool between rounds it walks. Herb Parsons was a strong advocate of the 270.

This is what I get for asking fellow gun enthusiasts their opinion, hoping for a conclusive answer. Lol

You know, what it comes down is this;

My purpose here is to replace a Savage that I lost. That's why I am going with savage. I liked the gun alot, it was very affordable and it was a very straight shooter. So why not just stick with what I had?

Same price I could get a .308 or 30-06. That's why...

See, circles. I was hoping to make up my mind before I split for NM, but it looks like I'll be debating it while sitting out in the middle of the desert, wishing I had a good bolt rifle...lol

Oh well, at least I have a few others to keep me company...

I like the 308 but for one rifle to do all the 30-06 would be the best choice.
Personally I hunt most of the time with a 7mm Rem. Mag.
