Default 223 vs. 556 (Weatherby vanguard)

I have a Weatherby Vanguard in .223 caliber. As far as I know, I'm not supposed to use 5.56 ammo in it. But in looking at several web sites, it shows up as .223/5.56 . So now I'm confused. I never would have cared but with the ammo shortage 5.56 is more available. I know the barrel pressures are far greater with the 5.56 ammo. Don't worry, I'm not trying it until I get some good facts from you guys.....send them in please.

Liberals are constantly telling us about the poor and oppressed in this country. With that in mind, why do they feel the need to keep importing poor people from other countries?

+1. Check with the manufacturer. Some AR variants will shoot both but you almost have to buy (or have modified) a custom bolt action that will shoot both. I checked into getting a bolt action 5.56/.223 a couple of years ago with no luck. Here's the discussion if you're interested:

from what i understand that if its chambered in 5.56 it shoots either. in a .223 you should not use 5.56 due to the increased pressures. a check with the man would be a wise decission.

The Weatherby Vanguard is actually a Howa 1500 so use that for your research online. If the barrel is stamped .223 like my Howa 1500 in .223 is then you should not shoot 5.56 ammo from it. However these rifles are overbuilt and you likely would never experience an issue by doing so.
