Most people can quote the book too but don't know squat on the REAL world velocities and impact power levels are. That's what I deal in-if I give you velocities/impact power it will be real world levels. Several others are the same way.

Ok, what are your thoughts about the 308 for a long range cartridge vs a 30 06.

Same ballistics basically w the 308 being flatter shooting and a little less impact power out past bout 300 yards.

30-06 has a very slight edge due to a bigger case capacity so it can reach a scootch farther. The real advantage in 30-06 vs 308 comes in using bullets heavier than 168 grains. The bigger case capacity of the 30-06 really starts to shine and totally leaves the 308 behind when you get to 175-220 grains.

168 and down there is no practical difference.
