.223 from a hornet
i have the opportunity to purchase a .22 hornet. is it possible to convert this to a .223? the rifle in question is a browning micro left hand, and i want to put a stainless barrel on it

im not sure maggg?...but anything is not familiar with those rifles...but if you do your research and find out its made simple like the ruger 10/22...converting it want alter the rifle much...and keep its value..

if it was me...i would not do anything to that rifle...being its a browning its got to be worth a good lil bit?...

if you have your heart set on converting it to a .223 by all means go for it,if you know what ya doing;)...sorry i couldnt have been more sure others on this site will give you the right answers....welcome to the site by the way!

The issue you're going to run into right away is the difference in rim size. Not only the diameter (Hornet= .350", .223= .378"), but the Hornet is rimmed. This can be overcome by having the bolt face and extractor modified. Unless you really had your heart set on a new barrel, just have the existing one reamed to .223.
Good luck.

If it is a bolt gun sure you can. You will have to change the barrel or have it cut and rechambered and refitted to the action. Then you are going to have to have the bolt body replaced or the bolt head replaced or machined to fit the .378" 223 case head.

In the long run it is going to be cheaper to keep the hornet and then get a 223.

How aboat magazin? .223 is much longer than .22Hornet.
If single shot break open action rifle: easy thing.

My Thompson/Center pistol 10" bull barrel .22LR is rechambered to .22Hornet. I use .224 bullets. The gun is very accurate.

Yes, it can be converted, but how much do you want to spend and why ??
The .22 Hornet is a great little round, fast and accurate. .22 Hornet ammo right now is more readily found on the shelves than .223.
