In the rarely used true sense of the word, yes. So is the 22-250 and the .220 Swift. However, most people us the "22" term to mean 22 rimfire, which of course it is not.

Default A Little Knowledge Is A Dangerous Thing

A Smart Car and a Lincoln Town Car Stretch Limousine are both "cars" too.

I will add that .22 LR are lead slugs, maybe copper washed. Everything .22 Mag and above are REAL bullets, jacketed, otherwise they'd fly apart from the rpm's. Even .22 Mag rimfire is twice as powerful as .22 LR. .223? It's a ".22" bullet in diameter only. See the pic I was generous enough to take the time to attach which speaks a thousand words.

Note: .22 LR bullets are usually 36 to 40 grains weight and .223 is usually 55 to 62 grains.

Huh...? Lots of centerfire handgun and rifle cartridges can be found loaded with non-jacketed, lead slugs.

ANNNNND the QUESTION was- is it a .22 caliber. Not .22 LR, but .22 caliber. And caliber denotes nothing beyond the diameter of the bullet.

Both a .30 Carbine and a 30-06 are .30 calibers- even though they are VERY different cartridges.

Bullets for several calibers are 0.224" ..

Some of those calibers 223, 5.56mm (millimeter), 22-250, 22 Hornet, 222 Remington, 22 Long rifle, 22 Short and on and on.

All 22 caliber.

I thgink your friend has listened to Joe Biden et al and they have confused him.

Is the 223/5.56 a 22 LR??? NO NO NO Centerfire vs rimfire.
