.22 short won't kill a bear.........unless maybe you had already nailed its paws to a tree and soaked it in gasoline...mmmmmmm

What goes faster and handles better a 1950 volkswagon or a brand new Corvette. A 22 short that is ineffective on about any thing bigger than a rabbit at close range, compared to a 300 win mag which is a fast flat shooting step up from a 30-06 desighned for long range hunting on all big game in north America.
You sure see it all in the forums sometimes.

For all that had this sail over your head- this is a tongue in cheek thread, poking fun at some of the questions that are asked here.

So let me ask the questions in a different manner-

(1) looking for a first car for my 17 yr old grandson. Should I get him a 1970 VW Beetle, or a new Corvette?

(2) Looking for a first rifle for my 6 yr old grandson. Which would be better- something in .300 Win mag, or .22 Short?

AND the point is- the answer to all of those "best" questions is:

.....that all depends.

I can carry a revolver (NAA) loaded with 22short the change pocket of my jeans and no one will know. If I carry a .300 wm in my pants I will get a lot of strange looks from people. Of course, it might be a good way to meet women.

C3shooter, now that you have us going on hi-speed furballs... N. Alberta on the oil rigs in bitterly cold weather, rabbits would seek shelter in the stacked drill pipes. Don't know how they died, but they had to be removed. Check to make sure the pipe cap will thread ok, toss in a fraction of a primed & lit stick of Forcite 60% and screw that cap on!
Not sure of the muzzle velocity, but hey Orangello... here's how a rabbit could kill a bear!
