Had some bad luck this summer! Had to let some guns go. Now that season is around the corner I've been looking for a good deal in deer rifles I have a friend at work that loves my Mathews z7 bow and offered me a trade for his 22-250 Remington vls with a 26inch barrel and 1-14 twist even up trade. I think I'm going to do it so I need a round that will get the job done I don't reload so it got to be factory my budy that has the gun never fired it yet so he has no where for me to start on what the gun likes need some ideas from people that use them for whitetail . Sorry guys that think it's to small butt it's all I can do with what I got.

Just about any 55 grain Ballistic tip that groups well. My buddy uses his 250 for deer every year. He's on his third one in the 16 years I've known him.
they are very destructive little rounds.

Yea I'm hearing they are pretty deadly a couple of guys I know use them the said they are unbelievable but the twist in there guns are 1-9 the one I'm getting is 1-14 I'm hearing it won't shoot higher gr bullets

That same guy has a Remington 742 wood master semi in 30/06 he might be willing to trade I just don't know much about them acuracy, jamming not sure if it's a problem with this model its got some years behind it

The 742 are good guns and will get the job done some have jamming issues but its better then a 250 in my opinion and yes I do own one and I love it but it was made for varmints not deer

I'm thinking long and hard about the two I'm shooting no further than 125yards so the 742 should be accurate enough right?

Yes, i would recommend a 30-06 all day before suggesting the best 22-250 for deer. A Remington 742 at that range should be great, put some glass on it and you have a good huntin rifle

Accurate enough..?
The 30-06 was designed for 1000 yard shots. Was the primary US sniper cartridge for many years - until they developed the 308.
It has a ton of energy - about 2800 ft/lb at muzzle. - Compare that to a 30-30 that has around 1700.
The 30-06 is an excellent deer rifle - and more...!

I know the round well I was just worried about the age of that 742 you never know what it has been threw for a semi . The 22-250 is brand new he just got I was figuring if I can find a good load for it and take head , neck, and steady broad side shots it should get me threw then next year when money is better I hope lol and pick up the 7mm-08 I've been wanting I'll still have a good coyote rifle and it can be back up!

I've never seen a comparison - I wonder if someone has done it...
But wouldn't a 22-250 shot have a lot more energy than an arrow??
It would shoot straight- it's a high speed round - and not be bothered by brush as much as an arrow? - I'm guessing.
But i don't know. I'm not a bow and arrow guy.

Just thinking a 22-250 would out kill an arrow by a bunch...
