I just looked at the rugers and watched some YouTube videos and wow. To me it looks like it has all the features of the more expensive savage at the axis price. I think I'm pretty well decided. Marlin and howa looked ok but seamed people think they didn't stack up to the ruger. Plus I think it's the best looking of all mentioned rifles. Anyone think that the ruger American 30-06 is a bad rifle or there's a better choice for the price?

Snag a Stevens 200 if you can find one, as soon as I have some spare cash I'm going to get one and build it up.

That's by savage as well, right? What made you choose it?

Yes my good friend of 35yrs owns coveys guns here we shoot all the new mods he gets in. I hated the stock, the action was not anywere near as smooth as a marlins, it almost reminds you of a axis, they do shoot moa tho. An we were using cheap ass federal an the best 100 yrd group was .886 3shots, using a led sled, leupold 4.5x14 vx3, 270 cal. An yes ill stick with a marlin

i have had a Mossberg ATR100 in 30-06 and it's probably one of the hardest recoiling 30-06 rifles i have ever shot or owned. but it had a smooth bolt, decent trigger and with some loads i worked up, was very, very accurate. for a hunting rifle it would have been just about perfect, not so much for my type of target shooting.

the Savages suggested are great rifles and pretty dang accurate right out the box. have shot several and they are a good value for the money for the Axis series. all in all, not a bad choice if this is what you like. my problem is i just don't carefor the way it shoulders as it just doesn't feel right to me. so not owning the Savage is a personal preference and not to say they are a bad rifle.

my personal favorites are the Marlin X7 series of rifles. i like the way it shoulders and feels. it feels more comfortable to me. it has an excellent adjustable trigger, very good recoil pad, is pillar bedded in the stock and is very accurate. i have three of them currently, a XS7 in 7mm-08, a XL7C in 25-06 and the XS7VH in 308. all of them are very enjoyable to shoot. they are very decently priced as well. the most i spent was about $370 for the heavy 26" barreled 308. you might want to give these Marlins consideration as well. i have no regrets in any of mine and have plans for a few more!

I have never shot a mossy rifle only shotgun so I can't compare but I have shot various savage and a really like the trigger set up.it all depends what u want to us it for.
the Weatherby Vanguard and the Howa 1500 are the same action, but i would go with the Weatherby because i like the way the stock feels much better than the Howa. but that's just my personal preference. both are very good rifles that are pretty danged accurate. either of these would also be good choices for the OP.

like i said hardest recoiling 30-06 i have ever owned. and i have owned many over the years. but it would make a decent hunting rifle. as i said the one i had was very accurate. and the bolt was very smooth to operate. all in all, not a bad rifle for the price. but as i don't hunt anymore, and just reload and target shoot, the Mossberg just didn't work for my needs. on a weekend when i target shoot or work up loads i sometimes will shoot 60-80 rounds at time. my 7mm Rem. Mag. has less felt recoil than the Mossberg did!
