Does anyone know if the 1909 Model 98 Argentine Mauser was ever made in 8mm (8x57)?

If I'm looking at the right gun it looks like they were made in 7x57 8x57 and 9x57

The Argentine Mauser Mdle of 1909 was only chambered in the 7.65 X 53 MM 1889 Belgian caliber. This was a .301 bore .311 groove rifled barrel. The 150 .311 Ctg. loaded by Norma will clock 2,920 Fps from a 20 " barrel. This provides .308 Win. ballistics. This rifle will shoot .311 .312 .313 bullets with fine accuracy. The 1909 DWM was the Crown Jewel of German export Mausers. It was made in Infantry Rifle and Engineers Carbine Mdls. The 1909 7.65 X 53 MM was used by some 12 countries in its day.

Good question, no. This was not used by or issued to German Troops. The Germans used what was known as "Mauser Diplomacy' during the early to mid 19th century. They supplied very fine Mauser rifles to many nations. Many of their customers were in South America. This allowed a close relation with their customers for other things. It is what the Russians have done with the AK 47 rifle. The question is why did they export better rifles than they issued to their own troops?

The reason I ask is because I just bought on for a 6.5x55 sporter conversion project. It is in 8x57. It must have been rebarreled somewhere along the way. It really doesn't matter as the action is going to be rebarreled to 6.5x55 anyway. I was just curious if it was original or not. From what I can find, the 1909 Argentine action has been highly sought after for custom conversions. So I guess I got a good one for my project. This gun was already carrying a sporter stock, was D&T for a scope, had the bolt handle altered for a scope and had a low scope safety. It also has a nice aftermarket trigger guard. So, all the work has been done. All my 'smith has to do is install a new barrel. All this for $265. I couldn't pass it up.

For Mauser fans the 1909 is the Holy Grail of rifles. The 1909 has been converted to every caliber known. The 6.5 X 55 is a great Mauser Ctg. I would like to find a nice 1909 for what you paid for that one.
