22a keyholing?

Shot some paper for the first time in a while with the 22a. Usually we shoot steel, but I noticed about half the rounds were tumbling from 7 yards, with cci minimags. Any ideas?

Nope, not crazy at a all. That's defiantly tumbling going on.

My only suggestion would be what's probably the obvious. The first one is to give the barrel a good cleaning, the second is to check the riffling to see if its just plain worn out.

Definitely not normal. I shoot mine at 25 & 50 yards outside in a bullseye league, all nice clean holes. Been using CCI standard velocity lately, also Remington golden bullet 1280 fps, 36 grain bullets.

Looks like major barrel problem. Look carefully at muzzle to see if there are any nicks. Or is it shaving the bullets when it chambers the round?

I clean it every time, maybe has 2000 rounds through it. When I cleaned it this time there was some crud half way down the barrel that was real hard to get out. Think I it might have been rust? I got it out now. Why would I have rust if I clean every time.

Maybe it was lead build up.

robocop10mm 07-27-2013 04:37 AM

Lead build up will definately cause this. Try some Shooter's Choice bore solvent and a bit of elbow grease. Next step is to get a Lead Free cloth. Yellow treated cloth. Cut it into patches and force them down the barrel. This will strip lead out like nobody's business. Be warned it will remove bluing and nickel plating.
