Beretta 92F vs. 92FS
what's the big difference between these two models of Beretta's 9mm? I can purchase a good used 92F for $400.00, a used 92FS is about $550.00.
Is it a safety feature perhaps. It seems like i remember the only difference is one or two items the military wanted installed before buying the contract back in "90. Thanks for reply

To my knowledge, there isn't any big difference only minor. The 92FS has a bigger head on the hammer pin, to prevent frame/slide separation dangers, as was seen in early gov't testing. Also I think the F were always made full metal, while the FS has changed somewhat through the years by switching some components to plastics (eg. guide rod, mag release, some triggers) Both are great pistols either way...

the big difference is their is a block to keep the slide from coming off under stress and slamming into the face of the shooter. personally i would never buy a 92f. they are different guns the FS models are much safer

Yes the early 92F had issues w the slide coming off into the face of the shooter, which was remedied with the FS series. I thought the M9 was the same as the 92FS though. Side by side, I see no differences in the 92FS to the M9

Some m9 (early ones) are f models the vast majority are fs. But you wont run across one unless it was stolen from inventory as they all got updated slides making them fs models. Any m9 that is a f model will be marked property of us govt.

Ok, so the M9 got the same changes over time as the 92F/92FS but that goes back to the original question, what is different between the 92 and the M9? comparing an early M9 to a current 92FS is only as fair as comparing a 92F to a 92FS and asking what's different.
Food for thought, the M9 I bought came with an owners manual for a 92FS.

Depends on which m9. The m9a1 has a bevel magwell checkering front and back of grip square trigger guard threedot sights instead of dot over dot and come with pvd coated mags.

The differences are subtle and have changed over time. Beretta incorporated many M9 features into the 92FS in each generation.

When I bought my beretta 84 (in the early 90's) the difference was the FS was a staggered magazine and the F wasn't. So the FS held more rounds.
That's not the case with the 92?

thats correct. the 92 and 84 are different guns but beretta uses the same designations and they mean different things across models.
