Well, in '85 I was as old as Jack Benny, 39.

I have one. Over engineered and built like a tank. I love mine. Not super accurate, but it's accurate enough.

I have both, the P95 is my everyday carry gun. They are both rock solid dependable.

I have never shot a P89. I own a P95 and I am very happy with it. From what I am reading in the gun rags the newer P series has a better trigger and is more ergonomic. I believe the ergonomic part but I am not so quick to believe the function part. It appears that we have enough FTF members that have shot both to clarify this matter.

I have the p89 and the brother in law has the p95. I love my 89 and he tells me I'm goin to love that 95 even more.

I look forward to putting them side by side and seeing how I like each of them.

That 89 runs like a typewriter and never gives me any problems. It is very hard to beat and its big enough to use as a club if need be.

The P89 is very much a "we threw everything at the wall and saw what stuck" approach. That's because the P85, the original P-Series handgun, was simply a knee-jerk reaction to the wonder 9 market that was passing Ruger by.

That is largely why the P89 is over-engineered and shows a very early 80's design sensibility in regards to ergonomics.

I have no doubt the P95 improved on many things. I wouldn't buy a P89 over a P95 if given the choice. That said, I love my P89 warts and all. Yeah, the trigger is not great and the gun definitely puts function well over form but it is as solid as they come.
