Default SR9c Serial # Placement

Why has Ruger placed the serial number on the outside of the SR9c? Wouldn't it be easy for someone to file the number down if the weapon were stolen?

thanks in advance for any answers.

All guns that I can think of have Serial #'s on the outside...

Why would they make an easy chore more complicated? The number could be removed no matter where they put it.

Thank you. As a first time gun owner there are many questions I have that the answer is obvious to an experienced gun owner. I appreciate forums like this one where I can get information that is hopefully credible and us it on the practice range and also become more knowledgeable as a gun owner.

If the s/n is out in the open...it's more obvious when/if the thing has been tampered with. Just bought my wife a Smith/Wesson J frame and the model and s/n is under the frame where it swings out. If someone is careful, you could remove the s/n and never know it w/o knowing where to look. Just my .00000002 cents.
