I thought I had jinxed myself when I made my earlier post about our SR22. As I used it more to break it in I began having more and more problems with it not ejecting, not feeding right and the slide not staying open after the last shot in the mag.
As I followed this thread I made sure I was holding it firmly, not touching the slide, tried different ammo and had others use it. Last thing I tried was giving a really good cleaning which is when I think I discovered my problem. As I followed the instructions to break it down I noticed the barrel came off with the slide. According to the manual to removed the barrel you need to loosen a screw that is just in front of the trigger. When I looked there was NO screw, so nothing was holding the barrel in place. I am fairly new to handguns and thinking that myself and my family who shot this gun are lucky nothing bad happened. With the barrel free to move around no wonder it wasnt feeding and ejecting correctly.
I still like Ruger and I am considering this a lesson learned not to take anything for granted. With my other Rugers the first thing I did was break them down to look them over, I didnt do that with this one.
I will be on the phone to Ruger first thing tomorrow. I am thinking I should ask for a replacement because who knows what damage may have been done. Would others agree?
"theforthD" - You most likely sent yours to Ruger already but I would be interested in knowing if you remember that barrel screw being in place on yours.
This will be my first time calling Ruger, I have only heard positive things about their customer service so I hoping I get the same.
