I traded off my 19 for an SR9c. Grip is smaller than the 19 and it has a thumb safety. No failures. SR40c is the same size if you want a 40. Glock grips prior to Gen 4 dont fit my hand well. I have not tried a Gen 4 but the grips are supposed to have changeable back straps. As for animal protection, a 4" 357 or 44 mag would be a better choice. Too much power loss on 2". Ruger Security Six revolvers in 357 are available used in the $300-350 range. I am not a Taurus fan but they make a 5 shot ported 44 mag that is light weight for the type and caliber. Just dont shoot it at night.

Ruger makes the SR45, all priced the same which was surprising. Ruger or Glock, you really can't go wrong! What ever fits your needs!

The SR45 is nice, but the SR9 & SR40's for some reason have a "smoother" feeling Trigger, maybe it's just me. I wanted one anyway until the SR 1911's hit the shops.

About price I got my M&P 40 with the carry case, holster, 2 extra mags, speed loader and 2 additional backstraps for $529.00 (on sale) at Trader Jerry's in Salem Va. I have read nothing but good reviews about the gun and how it feels in the hand. And I have to agree.

I just don't get the hype of the 1911... Is it really that amazing of a gun?? I'm not really interested in buying one but I don't understand why everyone else is! Haha

you should shoot both not take anyone's word for it. would you buy a car like that, without test driving it? what do you expect a guy with 3 Glocks to tell you? I own multiple Rugers, I'd tell you they are better guns and most certainly better customer service - but then again, I've never needed Ruger customer service lol

go shoot each one! a LOT of people (myself included) will tell you the Rugers fit their hands better. My SR40 is a tack-driver that cycles the crap out of any ammo. Others like Glocks for other reasons.

If you go buy a Glock without shooting both the Glock & the Ruger, well, you will never know if you bought the right gun for you -will you?!

Im not a huge fan of either but the Gen 4 19 sure does fit my hand soooo much better than the previous Gen models . Just saying that ,the reliability of the glock is pretty awesome . Id say pick the one that fits in your hand best .

Plus you get an extra magazine with the generation 4 pistols that almost makes up for the price difference in the generation 3 glock pistols.
